Ed’s Update
We can now tell the story of what happened with Ed over the last week and a half. The journal wasn’t updated because we didn’t want one of the sisters to worry, so we waited to make sure he was ok.
He was doing some furniture moving – or sliding – to get his Steeler room painted. He had no problems doing that, but when he tried to reach up to hang his Steeler curtain (real men shouldn’t hang curtains) he did something to his back. The pain lasted all day, and by Sunday evening we were in the emergency room with a diagnosis of sciatica. After a shot of dilaudid and a prescription for percocet, we were on our way home with a little less pain. For the next 4 days he was still in pain, and thought it might be more than the sciatica, so he went to the doctors on Thursday, had x-rays and more percocet. On Tuesday he went back to see the doctor and was told to have physical therapy and was given an anti-inflammatory drug and more pain killers that are not as potent as the percocet.
Just when we thought it was safe to go out the door, the doctor told him that his sugar level was quite high. He had a physical, which included a blood test, in December or January and the sugar level was ok. So, whatever shot this sugar up, happened since then. He had another blood test yesterday and it is still high, so we will see the doctor on Tuesday to discuss the next steps. He has been hobblng around on my dad’s cane and seems to be doing a little better, but he is having a hard time dealing with this additional news.
