The Diagnosis
Finally, after five long months, there is a diagnosis for Ed. As hard as it is to believe, it is Hodgkins Lymphoma. We are in shock because we put that diagnosis behind us and were focusing more on the auto immune disease, sarcoidosis. Even after the biopsy the surgeon, Dr. Underhill, was still leaning toward sarcoidosis and never even hinted at cancer. One evening the oncologist, Dr. Siegel, came in and said 'well, I guess you won't be needing me anymore.' He felt the same as the surgeon but today he came back into the room and told us what the results of the pathology tests were. We are in shock and trying to put this all together in our minds but it will take some time. He is home and that's the best place for him where he can enjoy his computer games and favorite tv shows.
If it wasn't for Andrew and his guidance in seeing Dr. Siegle we would probably still be waiting for answers. We'll see Dr. Siegle in two weeks and find out all we need to know about what this means and how they plan on treating him. He did say it will be a little trickier due to all the other issues Ed has.
These next two weeks we are going to try and do fun things and forget about it for a while. As always, we know we have lots of love, support and prayers to help us through and we thank you all for that.
Hang in there with us, we haven't given up the fight!
