Home At Last
Was only joking about him leaving pushing the IV pole – but it almost happened. Just when he was ready to leave….. only waiting to have the IV removed – the nurse came in with a shot of Lovenox!!! OMG – that set him off and, I will admit, it sent a jolt through me, too.
As many of you know, Lovenox is what caused his brain bleed many years ago – so to see the nurse standing there with the shot in her hand….. well, that did it. He refused it and she was stunned, to say the least. She told him it was what they needed to give him in order for him to go home. He didn't want to hear it.
She left and within a few minutes a doctor came in giving us all the crap about how he needs this and if they don't give it to him – they would need to keep him another day. Oh lord…. not the thing to say at that time! He told her he would sign himself out and that was it. She did listen to his reason for not wanting it, and said 'but, it's only one shot.' Talk about stress on a heart patient – that was it and I could see his head turning an ugly shade of red. She left the room and we waited for an hour – really waiting for the guys in the suits to come and usher us out, but the nurse came back, gave him his discharge orders and that was it.
So we are home with not a pleasant exit from Hartford Hospital. We know it's protocol to protect not only us, but the hospital, too. He doesn't want to ever go back there but one day he will realize they took a big chance in doing that sigmoid test and finding the area of the bleeding and possibly saving his life.
I promise tomorrow, or in the next few days, to put some happy things in the journal and some awesome pictures that I've been getting.
Thanks to everyone for keeping him in your prayers and for the phone calls, emails and comments in the journal. I read them all to him and they make him smile. Thanks to Tim and Kim for always being there and a thank you to Andrew for visiting.
