Ed’s Surgery Thursday
The surgeon was amazed at how well Ed did with the surgery. He was alert and talking when we went to see him in recovery. Other than the cut on his neck he looked just fine, a little groggy but laughing and joking with the doctor and nurse. The new part was inserted in his spine and the surgeon said he instantly saw the improvement to the nerves in his neck and arm. He was surprised since that usually doesn’t happen for days or weeks after surgery. Ed is incredible when it comes to getting through these things and making a quick recovery.
A week before the surgery, he started to have second thoughts about having it done because he said he didn’t feel too bad. They found one of the bone spurs was pressing on his esophagus, so it was good he didn’t wait. He knew eventually he would have the nerve damage in both arms and legs but when you’re feeling okay, it’s hard to think about surgery.
After a six hour wait for the discharge papers and prescriptions, we were on our way home Friday. He did okay until it was time to go to bed and then he struggled to find a comfortable position. I asked if he took the pain medication and he said, no. After taking that and laying in the recliner, he was able to get some sleep. Now he’ll take the pain meds every four hours so he is comfortable.
No news about the biopsy, other than they didn’t find any cancer cells, but they still weren’t able to determine what it is. This may take a few days and we’re anxious to know what’s going on with that.
We know so many were praying for Ed and they worked in getting him through this surgery. We need them to continue a little while longer until we hear about the biopsy.
Thank you, as always, to everyone for keeping him close in your hearts and in your prayers. He is one tough dude!
