Pathology Report

Received news about the pathology report on Thursday and today we went to see the surgeon, Dr. Gates, for a more detailed explanation.

The tumor was first thought to be small at 1.9cm but it actually was 5.2cm. The margins outside the tumor contained cancer cells as well as the one lymph node that was removed. As with all cancers they are categorized in Stages from I to IV and this is a Stage IIIA, meaning it has spread beyond the breast.

Even after hearing Dr. Gates explain that she could go back and remove more tissue, I had already made up my mind to have a mastectomy. Before that happens, I’ll be going for a CT Scan and a Bone Scan to make sure the cancer isn’t hiding in other places. September 1st I’ll see Dr. Hong, the oncologist, to set a plan in motion for treatment after the surgery. Based on the results of the scan, and praying everything else is clear, I’m assuming the surgery will be early September.

It’s so much to absorb and try to process but I have a positive outlook on all of it. I still have lots to see and do, so I’m not letting something like cancer take that away.

My love to everyone and please remember to keep those who are taking good care of me in your prayers, too.
