A New Day
It was quite a frustrating day for all of us. There just isn’t enough help no matter where you go. Ed called and said the nurse wanted to talk to me and she said it wasn’t an emergency, but they didn’t have any dilantin to give him and could I bring one pill in. What… that’s an emergency to us!
Thank goodness it’s only five minutes away, so I grabbed the entire bottle of dilantin and off I went. It’s a good thing I did because, despite her asking for only one pill… they really needed two. All is well.
Then the occupational therapist came in and had him get up on his own and walk the hall. Of course, he overdid it – she was cute and he wanted to impress her! His nurse came in and the therapist said he needed a pain pill…. her response, “I just asked him and he said he didn’t need one.” Excuse me – maybe when you asked, he was in bed and resting so he wasn’t in pain – but he just walked the hall. Boy, I had to bite my tongue.
He did a good job and settled in to watch some football and I went home with a smelly bag of undies to wash.
Arrived a while later with fresh goodies. He wanted to go in the bathroom to wash up by himself and it was ok by me, the therapist said he could. No sooner was he in there and in comes the cute therapist asking where he was. I told her what he was doing and she said he wasn’t supposed to be on his own… it’s a liability thing. Wait…. I heard you tell him it was ok. She said she didn’t realize he wasn’t cleared by the ‘physical therapist’ yet and he had to have someone with him at all times. So, she barges in the door and he was standing there in all his glory soaping up NosMo King!!!!
Got him all dressed and back in bed and she explained everything to him about why he still needed to have a nurse help him, or be near when he’s in the bathroom. No problem.
Tim came and we had a nice little visit and it was comforting to see him doing so well. We didn’t stay long because we both were worn out and he was content to watch football.
Before we left, the nurse came in and he asked about his coumadin… that is a very important pill for him to have. She said she would be back with all his meds in a few minutes. Tim and I left.
When I got home, Ed was texting that they didn’t have any orders to give him his coumadin. They told him it wasn’t on the list from the hospital…. that sure sounded fishy. So we went back and forth texting for about a half hour and finally I asked him if he wanted me to put in an emergency call to his cardiologist and get it straightened out. He told me to wait and about an hour later – in came the coumadin. I need to find out what the mix up was tomorrow when I go in.
For all of you who said ‘car’ prayers for me… thank you. I broke the news to him today about the damage to the car and he wasn’t upset. He now knew why I had to disappear from his room when my phone rang – told him I was juggling calls back and forth between Subaru and the Hospital. I’ve been told the hospital will take care of everything, so we’ll see how that goes.
