On the Move
Ed was told this morning he would be moving to another room. We thought his roommate may have told them about the snoring and noise, but they said no. They were trying to get all the patients, needing the same kind of care, in an area closer to the nurse's station.
Today I asked him how many times they did the leg elevation and ice treatment, and he said none at all. Went home with plans on calling someone to find out what was going on, when the director of rehab called to tell me they were moving Ed… which I already knew. I told her my concerns about him not getting any of the treatment the doctor prescribed the day before. She checked on her computer, put me on hold, and then said there was a mistake in someone putting the information in the computer – it was in the wrong place so the nurse didn't see it. Unacceptable!
When I went in later to see him, he had his treatment.
As I walked by the nurses station, the director stopped me and said how sorry she was for the mistake and it was all being taken care of. She said he can have the ice whenever he needs it for his pain. Oh my word! It's not for pain, it's for the swelling and it was not written for 'as needed' it was written to be done 4-5 times a day. She knew I was getting upset but when I told her I read the paper from the doctor and knew what was prescribed, she changed her tune and said, ''oh yes, you're right, I see it written here."
He needs to get out of there as soon as he can. I may not be a 'licensed nurse' but I think I can take much better care of him than they can. He takes it all in stride and is so funny. We were having a deep conversation about all of this and he stopped, put his finger up (as in, wait a minute) and said "I hear the food cart."
That's all folks!
