A Rough Day and a Blessing

Ed was having pain last night and a hard time sleeping, so they gave him two Percocets, which I think was one too many.  He was hallucinating, yelling and still had pain.

We played cards and he was doing ok except for the continual pain in his shoulder, back, leg and hip. The doctor felt he was dehydrated, causing muscle cramps, and put him on IV fluids. That seemed to help until his stomach started hurting and he could barely move. They did an ultra sound to measure the urine in his bladder, and his bladder was full. So…. the next thing was a catheter and what an ordeal that was. Lots of urine came out, but it didn’t help with the stomach pain. Gave him Tylenol which didn’t do a thing and I asked them to take his temperature because he did feel warm. It was 100.8 but they weren’t too concerned with that, but they did want him to have an x-ray of his stomach and chest. Holy smokes, another ordeal. He couldn’t move from the bed so they actually did what they call ‘a burrito wrap’ and wrapped him in the sheets and moved him to the gurney. Thank goodness Tim and Kim came and were there as we waited for him to return and to get results. All negative, so they feel it might be muscle spasms, again. Gave him one Percocet, and he did seem to settle down enough for us to leave.

Now… the blessing. He has agreed to go to rehab. One of the PT women sat with him and with a soft, kind and gentle voice said “if you were my dad, I would want you to go to rehab to get stronger.” God love her!
