Ed’s New Knee
After surgery, Ed was alert and in recovery for a few hours before going to his room. He looked so much better than after the last knee surgery. They gave him a spinal this time and it seemed to make a big difference. Dr. Murray said everything went smoothy, without any issues.
He wore compression boots this time, instead of the leg compression ones. Every time the boot compressed, he said it really hurt the top of his foot. The nurse loosened the boot, but it didn’t seem to help. When she touched the top of his foot, he almost jumped out of bed. Took the boot off and he felt better for about 10 minutes before it started up again. His leg was wrapped from thigh to foot with an ace bandage so she tried moving it off his foot, up to his ankle. That also helped for about 10 minutes but you could see his foot starting to turn blue – panic mode. He still had a strong pulse in his foot, but the pain was excruciating. The nurse said the bandage should come off, but she couldn’t do it without approval from the doctor. It didn’t take long to get approval and instantly, once it was off, you could see the color coming back and no more pain.
Before they resolved the issue, two nurses were looking at him, then looking at his foot and one said “that isn’t normal” and he said, “meet Ed Lynch” Tim couldn’t stop laughing
Talked to him this morning and he didn’t have a good night. He said his back is killing him and he’s had a problem with that for quite a while. He figured it was from not walking right and once he had the surgery it would be better. I reminded him he did have a spinal, so that may be part of the pain, too. I’ll be on my way to see him soon and will update the journal.
