Ed & Phenergan
Friday morning, around 3:30, Ed woke up feeling dizzy and nauseous. With his history, we thought it best to go to the emergency room. After blood tests, and a cat scan, they felt it was an inner ear problem and gave him antivert pills, and an injection of phenergan. After about 15 minutes, he started twitching and feeling very anxious. The nurse said it couldn’t be a reaction, but as it got worse, the doctor came in and said about 2% of those given the medication (phenergan) can have a reaction. They gave him benadryl to counteract it, but nothing happened. His body was in spasms, and he couldn’t stay still. Then he started to hallucinate and spasm at the same time. Gave another kind of drug to counteract the reaction, but it didn’t work either. They tried another dose of benadryl, and then a different one after that…. nothing helped. This went on for 4 hours. Finally he started to calm down and fell asleep in the er.
We went home after being there for over 5 hours, and he went back to sleep and slept until 6:30 that night. Woke up a few hours, ate a little bit, then went to bed and slept all night.
Saturday he was feeling a little better, but still groggy. He slept on and off all day.
Sunday he still wasn’t feeling great, but at least the dizziness and naseous feeling was gone. He is still laying around and trying to get his strength back.
The trip to Pittsburgh, on Thursday, is still on.
