The Sister’s Visit

The much anticipated trip of the year was a great success. We had so much fun with the sisters and were truly sad to see them head back home. Every year Ed’s sisters Joan, Linda and Kris with a sister from another mother, (as she is called) Kathy make a trip to CT. Kathy has been a friend of the family since they were little kids living on Troy Hill in Pittsburgh.

They arrived on Saturday and we wasted no time in eating, drinking, playing cards (Scat and Screw Your Neighbor) along with teaching them how to play Chickenfoot with dominos.

On Sunday afternoon we relaxed and did more eating, drinking, playing cards and dominos.
In the evening we went to the East Side Restaurant with Tim, Kim, Mike & Rosanne and had a fabulous time. The restaurant specializes in German food and beer. When the owner brings out a big mug of beer he yells “Ticky Tocky TIcky Tocky.” Then everyone yells “Hoy, Hoy, Hoy.” An accordian player walks around playing any kind of song you can think of. He hung around our table because we were all singing….. plus we were tipping him!

Check out East Side Restaurant and you can see the owner and the accordion player in action!

We stayed at the Foxwoods Casino Monday and Tuesday night and we weren’t big winners – but we did have fun. Monday we were joined by Mike, Rosanne and Aunt Florence at Margaritaville in the Mohegan Casino.

Wednesday we checked out of our hotel and made our annual stop at The Christmas Tree Shop. There wasn’t much money left for shopping since most of it was back at the casino with the Indians.

Wednesday evening we were at Joey Garlic’s restaurant and were joined by Tim’s friend, Andrew, and our great neighbors Bob and Janet. Ed, Tim, Andrew and Bob meet every Monday for a ‘guys night out’ but sacrificed their Monday gathering to be with us. It was great to have them there and since the sisters have heard a lot about Andrew and I’m sure he’s heard a lot about them – it was nice for them to actually meet.

All of us have been following the bumpy road that Kris has been on since her diagnosis with breast cancer. We have prayed for her and kept her close in our hearts. She is a remarkable woman and has the most marvelous attitude of any one I’ve known. She completed her round of chemo treatments and we celebrated with an ice cream cake. Her next step is to start her radiation treatments and we will continue to keep her in our prayers that she does as well with those as she did with the chemo.
