Treatment Update
The nurse was here and explained in detail what they will be doing as far as his treatments. Today he will get one drug Ifosfamide for 90 minutes and they've already started him on the anti-nausea med. Tomorrow is another drug Carboplatin for 30 minutes and the third day will be Etoposide for 24 hours. He'll remain in the hospital while they monitor him and we're not sure how long that will be. After those 3 days he will get a rest for 21 days and start the cycle over again. They will adjust the treatments depending on how his body responds to them. So glad they are keeping him and not doing all of this as an outpatient and it sounds like they will bring him into the hospital each time. The entire protocol is called ICE.
We will also have a visiting nurse stop by when he is home – this is all new to me and I'll feel more comfortable having a professional check him out once in a while.
