Update on Ed
Ed saw the cardiologist today and got a good report. Even though he has many heart issues, the heart itself and the valve are okay. We asked why we've heard 'heart failure' mentioned so many times while he was in the hospital. He explained since he's in a-fib and the heart itself is enlarged with some fluid retention, that is typically what they call it but… and he said this multiple times…. Ed is not in heart failure.
He wants him to take his lasix (water pill) on a regular basis instead of only when his ankles are swollen. He has no chest pain or discomfort and only feels short of breath when the fluid builds up, so that's why he wants him to take it regularly.
We felt good after having a very lengthy discussion with him and we also talked about his involvement when Ed needs to have the colonoscopy and the polyp removed. The GI doctor – at Hartford Hospital – wants to take Ed off the blood thinner and use a slower reacting blood thinner in order to do the removal but the cardiologist feels it's safe to just take him off the blood thinner, do the removal and put him right back on it. It's a shame that doctors don't talk to one another when they aren't affiliated with the same hospital.
So we are putting cancer, heart failure and any other health issues behind us and looking forward to a more relaxed and happy year.
As always, thanks to everyone for emailing, calling and keeping Ed in your prayers.
We're forever grateful!
