Prayers for Me

It's been quite a while since posting and, because so many are connected through Facebook, it seemed a good time to take a break from my journal. Now I'm back and feeling strange in asking for prayers for me!  Posting in the journal will allow me to concentrate on what I'll need to do to fight this ugly cancer that has invaded my body.  About a month ago I found a lump in my breast…

Ed’s Surgery Thursday

The surgeon was amazed at how well Ed did with the surgery. He was alert and talking when we went to see him in recovery. Other than the cut on his neck he looked just fine, a little groggy but laughing and joking with the doctor and nurse.  The new part was inserted in his spine and the surgeon said he instantly saw the improvement to the nerves in his neck and arm.  He was…

The Haircut

Tim took Ed to a fabulous new place for a haircut.  So cute that son is taking father for his first haircut – post chemo treatments, that is.  The final chemo was in March of last year and Ed decided to never cut his hair again.  It went from stubble, to a little growth, to length and finally a pony tail.  That was it – he wasn’t looking like the youthful 70 years old that…

Goodbye to Mike

It was an emotional day and even with the frigid cold and snowy weather, so many came to say goodbye to Mike.  They shared memories, stories and hugs with Rosanne, Kim, Tim, Patrick and Ali.  There were tears, laughter and the sweet smiles of Griffin, Quincy, Cami and Mason trying to understand exactly where Grandpa was. Patrick wrote a beautiful memorial to his Dad that I would like to share with everyone: Michael J. Kiniry,…

Mike Is In Heaven

Mike passed peacefully this morning surrounded by his family.  Even though we were expecting this news, it’s never easy to hear.  He went to the hospital last night where they kept him comfortable with morphine. Whether you knew him for a lifetime, for a few years, or briefly met him, he was one you instantly knew was a happy soul. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all those who loved him. Until…

A Happy Holiday

Christmas Eve was so much fun and it started with a visit from the Christmas Wagon! Tim called to let us know they were on their way and to look out the window for a surprise. Standing at the door we could see what looked like headlights coming down the road but it was Tim and Kim pulling their blinking and twinkling red wagon of gifts.  The wagon was covered in red and white twinkling…

Thanksgiving

It was a very nice Thanksgiving and was celebrated in the party room of the apartment building where Mike, Rosanne and Tootsie live.  Everything was delicious and the room was converted into a beautiful Thanksgiving wonderland.  We were thankful that Mike and Ed were able to be there and were sad that Augie (Tootsie’s husband) was in the hospital.

Great News

Ed's biopsy came back clear – no cancer cells.  We're so thankful, especially after all he's been through before.  Now we have to let his body heal so he doesn't have as much pain. It's still tough for him to pull himself up out of bed or a chair but he's working on it.  It doesn't help that his back is hurting from laying flat for such a long time and the knees are acting…
