Ed saw the cardiologist today and got a good report. Even though he has many heart issues, the heart itself and the valve are okay. We asked why we've heard 'heart failure' mentioned so many times while he was in the hospital. He explained since he's in a-fib and the heart itself is enlarged with some fluid retention, that is typically what they call it but… and he said this multiple times…. Ed is not…
We saw Dr. Siegel today and he was happy with Ed's scan results. Although we were never able to get a firm diagnosis just from a scan before, the lymph nodes are not swollen and that's a good sign. What he's concerned with is the higher temps that Ed's been getting over the last two weeks. He's only had temps twice in the 100 range but even 98-99 are high for him since his 'normal'…
Bob and Jan made a trip to visit with us for a while and it was nice to see them. Bob decided to surprise Ed with his ‘bald’ head and Ed wanted to surprise Bob with his full head of hair…. as you will see from the pictures. We sat around and caught up on a lot of the happenings with family. Happy to say that everyone is doing well.
Good news…. we won’t be going to visit with Dr. Siegel for about a month and Ed is feeling good. In two weeks he will have a CT scan to check on those lymph nodes and we’re sure they’ll be tiny and back where they belong. Dr. Siegel feels the chemo has done its job and most likely the first sign of any recurrence (which we don’t expect) is the return of the fever and…
Was only joking about him leaving pushing the IV pole – but it almost happened. Just when he was ready to leave….. only waiting to have the IV removed – the nurse came in with a shot of Lovenox!!! OMG – that set him off and, I will admit, it sent a jolt through me, too. As many of you know, Lovenox is what caused his brain bleed many years ago – so to see…
Ed's had a few meals of solid food and is tolerating all of it just fine and waiting for the exit of it – but nothing yet. They may move him from this room since he doesn't need to be monitored as closely as before. He's feeling okay and even took a few spins around the hall and sat in the family room for a while. They've been hesitant to start him on blood thinner…
They found a blood vessel in the colon that was bleeding and the doctor clamped it off. Also had a bowel movement already that was almost 100% clear. He is amazing! They found a polyp that will need to be removed — it's pre-cancerous so he doesn't want him to wait too long for the colonoscopy. He is sitting in bed and waiting for the word that he can have FOOD! Thank you, everyone, for…
Monday was a little better day after many blood and platelet transfusions. They need to get him stabilized before trying to do any type of test and today his counts were moving upward. After a CT scan this morning they feel the bleeding is coming from his colon. The surgeon talked to him and said they are hoping the bleeding will stop on its own after the transfusions and that is exactly what happened the…
In a few weeks we will get the magnifying glass and look for traces of hair on Ed’s head and lip. We’re anxious to see what growth will appear and it will probably look strange since we’re used to seeing him bald. He’s felt so good and just wants to get his strength back and enjoy the warm weather that they promise is right around the corner. We did make it to Tim & Kim’s…
Protected By Angels is the medal that the staff at the cancer center gave Ed yesterday, as well as a 'Congrats' cake. It was a very emotional time as many nurses and the hospital chaplain came into the room cheering and clapping. They all wished Ed well and celebrated it being his last treatment. The chaplain had us hold hands and offered a very moving and beautiful prayer. We all know the power of prayer…
