For months, Ed has been dealing with a lot of different issues even though his knee replacement surgeries went well. He was so excited about not feeling any pain, but things started to change and he was sliding backwards in his recovery. We joined Silver Sneakers in hopes it would motivate him to keep moving and doing better physically, but nothing seemed to help. Tuesday (Dec 3) we saw Dr. Zweig and he was very…
Ed made it home today, and what a difference. He was able to get in and out of the car without any help at all. Once home, his challenge was that crazy recliner, but he maneuvered it with ease. It’s amazing the progress in just 9 days of physical therapy. He’ll still have PT at home and a nurse checking on him once a week, but that will probably be it before going to see…
Ed will be on his way home Thursday and he’s doing really well. Still not sure how he’ll handle getting in/out of the recliner, but his legs are much stronger and he’s gained some strength in his arms. I know he’ll work hard to make sure he doesn’t have to go back to rehab. Home care will continue, but they mostly work on walking, getting up/down and doing a few stairs. We hope he’ll be…
What a difference a week of rehab makes! He’s getting in and out of bed easier and not having as much pain as before, but the test is seeing if he can get out of a chair. They’re not only working on strengthening his leg, but getting those arms stronger, too. They will only release him once he proves he can do things on his own, just like they did before.
After 2 attempts at finding a vein, the third time was sucessful and he was on his way. Thank goodness he was only getting one unit, so from start to finish it was a four hour process – not bad. Tim picked him up in the Jeep since it was easier for him to get in and out of and it saved us the expense of him traveling to the hospital in an ambulance. Tim…
Ed finally made it to rehab on Tuesday evening and many of the nurses recognized him and made him feel at home. The doctor saw him and felt his leg was too swollen, but we told her that happened with his last surgery. She increased his lasix, so that kept him up a lot during the night. Saw him this morning and he looked ok, just tired. He went for PT and did a good…
Waiting to hear from the nursing home on a time for him to be admitted. He had a male PT yesterday and he recommended going for rehab and Ed agreed. We both know if he can’t get in and out of a chair or sofa, he’s not getting better at home.
It was not a good day, Ed continues to struggle getting up from the chair or even from the bed. The PT and a nurse were here and agreed he has no upper body strength and should be going to rehab. Even the PT person had a hard time getting him from the chair. They did call the surgeon to see if he would approve him going to rehab, but he said no. So, all…
Ed is home and having a tough time navigating the chair. Getting down is ok, but getting up is a challenge, even with Tim helping him. We decided to see how he would do getting in the bed, and it was much easier. PT is coming on Saturday. so she'll help him with the chair. It will all take time and he has to remember the last surgery he was in the hospital 5 days…
After a rough night, he looked pretty good when I saw him. He was alert, talking, watching TV and ate lunch. When PT came, they told him he couldn't go home if he wasn't able to lift himself from the chair – which he couldn't do yesterday without help. He tried four times, today, and struggled each time, so they will need to work with him on getting those arms stronger. It's not his legs,…
