No MRI

Breathing a huge sigh of relief after talking with the nurse at the surgeon's office.  She said many women don't get an MRI prior to surgery for various reasons…. one being claustrophobia.  I asked about having it done with an open MRI and she said they are not equipped to do the breast test. Thanks to everyone who shared the fear and anxiety they had when going through the test. Even those who never had…

MRI On Hold

If I were in school and taking a test…. I would get an "F" for failure.  Still can't believe I wasn't able to get through the MRI today.  No matter how I tried, I couldn't picture myself sliding into that tiny tunnel with my head face down in a small opening.  I've never experienced a panic attack until today.  I was so embarrassed and kept telling the technician how sorry I was – even after…

Making Progress

The MRI is scheduled for Friday at 1:00 but since I'm considered an 'elderly woman' I will need blood work done first.  Made me chuckle! Yesterday, the surgeon gave me a binder full of information which, I will admit, was quite overwhelming.  My dear sister-in-love, Kris, told me that would happen and she was oh so right.  I won't be seeing the doctor until July 24th so I'll be taking a little break from thinking…

Surgeon Visit

Thought there would be more information after seeing the surgeon today, but nothing other than Dr Gates going over the pathology report and explaining what all those coded words mean.  She talked about the difference between having a lumpectomy vs a mastectomy and, again, none of this is a known factor until after I have an MRI done.  All of this seems to happen in slow motion and, thankfully, this is not an aggresive cancer…

Appointment with Surgeon

Even though it seemed to take forever, I have an appointment with the surgeon on Monday in Hartford.  She is Dr. Elise Gates with an office in Farmington – close to us – but to get an earlier appointment, we had to go to her Hartford office. As soon as I know the details of what will be going on in the next few weeks/months, I will be posting it in the journal.  Thank you…

Prayers for Me

It's been quite a while since posting and, because so many are connected through Facebook, it seemed a good time to take a break from my journal. Now I'm back and feeling strange in asking for prayers for me!  Posting in the journal will allow me to concentrate on what I'll need to do to fight this ugly cancer that has invaded my body.  About a month ago I found a lump in my breast…

Ed’s Surgery Thursday

The surgeon was amazed at how well Ed did with the surgery. He was alert and talking when we went to see him in recovery. Other than the cut on his neck he looked just fine, a little groggy but laughing and joking with the doctor and nurse.  The new part was inserted in his spine and the surgeon said he instantly saw the improvement to the nerves in his neck and arm.  He was…

The Haircut

Tim took Ed to a fabulous new place for a haircut.  So cute that son is taking father for his first haircut – post chemo treatments, that is.  The final chemo was in March of last year and Ed decided to never cut his hair again.  It went from stubble, to a little growth, to length and finally a pony tail.  That was it – he wasn’t looking like the youthful 70 years old that…
